Out here in the mean streets of suburbia, something has been doing some killing. At least once a month, I’ll find a hollowed out rabbit or random lagomorph limbs out in my lawn. Who is doing this mass murdering?

The list of suspects is what you’d expect from suburban Pennsylvania: hawks, owls, maybe foxes, possibly my feral toddlers. These murders have been going on for a while and I never had any clues to the killer’s identity. Then, I stumbled upon a particularly grizzly crime scene.

As you can see in the video, there is a feather present. Is that feather from an owl? A hawk? It’s hard to tell. And, yes, that is a bonus raccoon latrine at the end filled with deposits. You know that kill was fresh if the raccoons hadn’t gotten to it yet. I bet when they did found it they issued quite a nutrient rich dump.

As for actually seeing any potential murderers in my lawn, this dude has been lurking lately. I’ve seen it haul away little birds, but never a rabbit. I feel like that feather in the video is from an owl, but as I’m bird-dumb so I cannot say for sure. Whatever the mystery killer is it is still out there with murder on its mind…
